William L. Benedict, M.D.
Surgical and Medical Retinal Specialist
As a board
certified ophthalmologist
and retinal
specialist, William
L. Benedict,
M.D. has been
with the Eye Care
Center of Northern
Colorado since
1993 and serves
as director of the
Retinal Center of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Benedict earned his medical degree
from the University of Cincinnati, College
of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science
in chemical engineering from the
University of Michigan. He completed
an ophthalmology residency at the
Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and went
on to two years of vitreoretinal fellowship
training at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Benedict is currently an Assistant
Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology
on the University of Colorado Medical
School faculty. Dr. Benedict specializes
in the surgical and medical treatment of
vitreoretinal disorders, such as diabetic
retinopathy, macular degeneration,
retinal vascular diseases, retinal detachment,
uveitis and severe ocular trauma.
With extensive training and experience
in the use of ocular lasers and current
vitreoretinal techniques, Dr. Benedict
stays on top of the latest advancements
to ensure every individual obtains the
best retinal treatment available.
Joel S. Meyers, M.D.
Oculoplastic and Cosmetic Surgeon
As director of the
Meyers Aesthetic
Center and its
affiliated skin care
division, Joel S.
Meyers, M.D., has
been at the Eye
Care Center of
Northern Colorado
since 1992.
He is specialized
in cosmetic and reconstructive eye
and facial plastic surgery, and is board
certified by the American Board of
Ophthalmology. He is also specialized
in oculoplastics and is the only specialist
in the region to routinely perform
reconstructive tear duct surgery. Dr.
Meyers graduated with distinction and
summa cum laude from the University
of Colorado at Denver with a bachelor
of arts degree in biology. He went on
to earn a medical degree from Jefferson
Medical College of Thomas Jefferson
University in Philadelphia. Dr. Meyers
served as chief resident and completed
his residency training at the Long Island
Jewish Medical Center and Queens
Hospital Center in New York. He also
taught at the University of Arizona
Medical School, where he received his
fellowship training from the University
of Arizona Health Sciences Center.
This fellowship program is one of few
nationwide certified by the American
Society of Ophthalmic and Plastic
Reconstruction Surgeons.
Irene Olijnyk, M.D.
Comprehensive Ophthalmologist
As a comprehensive
ophthalmologist
who is a board
certified physician
and surgeon, Irene
Olijnyk, M.D. has
been with the Eye
Care Center of
Northern Colorado
since 1981.
Dr. Olijnyk earned
a bachelor of arts degree in psychology
in 1976 from the University of Illinois.
She went on to earn a medical degree
from Loyola University Stritch School
of Medicine in 1977, and completed an
ophthalmology residency from 1977 to
1980 at Loyola University and Hines
V.A. Hospital in Illinois. Some of the
many areas of interest Dr. Olijnyk has
include working with nearsightedness,
astigmatism, pink eye, injuries, cataracts
and glaucoma. She treats several
causes of glaucoma and is familiar with
recent advances and medications available
to help treat it. As one of the most
experienced eye M.D.s in the region,
Dr. Olijnyk has a great relationship
with her patients, and enjoys working
with patients of all ages. She feels it is
important for all people, from infants
to the elderly, to take care of their eyes
and have regular comprehensive eye
exams.
Micah W. Rothstein, M.D.
Glaucoma Specialist
Micah
Rothstein, M.D.,
a fellowship
trained specialist
in glaucoma,
is the director
of glaucoma
services at the
Eye Care Center
of Northern
Colorado. After
graduating with a bachelor of science
degree in business administration from
the University of Arizona – Tucson,
he completed his pre-med coursework
at the University of Colorado –
Denver. Dr. Rothstein received a
medical degree from the University
of South Carolina and went on to
complete his internship at Georgetown University and his residency at George Washington Medical Center, both in Washington,
D.C. He received his glaucoma
fellowship at the University of Florida
– Gainesville. He is a diplomate of the
American Board of Ophthalmology
and a member of the Association of
Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the
American Academy of Ophthalmology
and the Association for Research in
Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr.
Rothstein joined the practice in 2005.
Peter Andrews , M.D.
Cornea and Refractive Specialist
Peter Andrews, MD is a board certified, fellowship trained cornea, external disease and refractive surgery specialist. Dr. Andrews received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Florida, Gainesville. After several years as a professional software engineer, he graduated from medical school at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Andrews completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship training at the University of Florida. He is a trained cornea specialist performing procedures such as: LASIK; PRK; ICL’s (implantable collamer lenses); INTACS for keratoconus; corneal transplants, including the less invasive DSEK, and anterior lamellar transplants; cataract surgery utilizing the latest refractive lens technology (ReStor and toric IOL’s); and PTK. He is certified in the FDA approved Alpha Cor and Boston K-Pro artificial corneas for advanced corneal disease. Dr. Andrews enjoys performing refractive surgery, cataract surgery and has a strong interest in corneal infectious diseases. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
Elisha Tilton, MD
Surgical &Medical Retinal Specialist
Elisha Tilton, MD is a fellowship trained specialist in retinal disease and surgery, and a board certified ophthalmologist. Dr. Tilton graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal physiology and neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. He taught English as a second language in Colombia and Japan before earning his medical degree at the University of Vermont where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He then received two years of vitreoretinal fellowship training at the Lahey Clinic in Boston. Dr. Tilton has been involved in many clinical research trials in the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular occlusive disease. He specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the vitreous, retina, macula and complications of cataract surgery and ocular trauma. He speaks fluent Spanish.
Robert Krone, OD
Comprehensive Eye Care Provider
As a licensed optometrist with the Eye
Care Center of Northern Colorado,
Robert Krone, OD provides comprehensive
eye care at our Lafayette office.
Dr. Krone focuses on ocular health
and family eye care exams for glasses
and contact lenses. He joined the Eye
Care Center in February 2009. Dr.
Krone began his education by receiving
a Bachelor of Biology degree from
Northern Illinois University in 1983.
He then went on to study at Illinois
College of Optometry where he received
a Doctor of Optometry in May
of 1988. Dr. Krone practiced optometry
in a large private practice in Evanston,
Illinois. He was the team optometrist
for Northwestern University's
athletic teams from 1996 - 2004. Upon
moving to Colorado from Chicago, he
became a member of the Colorado
Optometric Association. Dr. Krone
provides ocular care to patients of all
ages and is experienced with cataract
and LASIK evaluations.
