Bill's story
Serving Longmont, Lafayette and the Northern Colorado region
My name is Bill Raasch. I’m 46 and I’ve been a High Myope for most of my life. I started wearing glasses when I was in first grade at age 6, and I’ve worn contacts for the last 27 years. I made the switch to contacts when I got a pair of coke bottle glasses so thick that I couldn’t fold the temples down.
I work in the high technology field, and spend a good deal of time traveling. I got tired of having to take out my contacts on long international flights, switch to glasses due to the dry air (and wanting to sleep), then having to put my contacts back on prior to Passport control so I would look something like my Passport photo. I have occasionally lost or broken a contact during travel – so I always carry a spare lens or two in my toiletry bag. It is quite disconcerting to be 10,000 miles from home, lose a lens in a meeting, and not being able to see at all from one eye.
I decided to have ICL surgery after doing on-line research and a consult with Dr. Andrews. Dr. Andrews walked me through all the steps of the procedure. The most difficult part for me was having to wear my coke bottles glasses to work for several weeks while my eyes returned to “normal” shape after 27 years of contact lens wear. The surgery was quick in comparison – and I emerged with 20/20 vision after a few days of healing.
The best part of my Post-ICL life is being able to wake up in the morning and being able to see the numbers on the alarm clock without having to pick it up and hold it three inches from my face. Also – the peace of mind it brings that I will never have to worry about “going blind” from a contact lens popping out of my eye in a meeting or while driving.
If you are a candidate for the procedure, and a high Myope like I was, I would strongly recommend this surgery.
