Pink Eye
Conjunctivitis, also called pink eye, occurs when the membrane that lines the eyelid and covers the white area of the eyeball becomes inflamed. It’s typically caused by a virus, bacteria, allergic reaction or irritants.
Symptoms of Pink Eye
- Whites of the eyes look pink or red because blood vessels are inflamed
- Itchy eyes
- Gritty feeling
- Eye discharge
- Tearing
- Light sensitivity
Treatment for Pink Eye
Treatment options for pink eye depend on the underlying cause of the infection. Treatment may include:
- Antibiotics
- Eye rinses
- Allergy treatment
- Waiting it out (in the case of viral pink eye)
