Pink Eye

Conjunctivitis, also called pink eye, occurs when the membrane that lines the eyelid and covers the white area of the eyeball becomes inflamed. It’s typically caused by a virus, bacteria, allergic reaction or irritants.

Symptoms of Pink Eye

• Whites of the eyes look pink or red because blood vessels are inflamed
• Itchy eyes
• Gritty feeling
• Eye discharge
• Tearing
• Light sensitivity

Treatment for Pink Eye

Treatment options for pink eye depend on the underlying cause of the infection. Treatment may include:

• Antibiotics
• Eye rinses
• Allergy treatment
• Waiting it out (in the case of viral pink eye)
