Active Lifestyle Lenses
Many people who have cataracts also have other vision conditions such as presbyopia (the need for reading glasses), myopia or hyperopia. In the past, cataract patients had only one option for lens replacement surgery. Today, there are options to match your replacement lens with your lifestyle, potentially freeing you from glasses and allowing you to swim, read or play sports without worrying about losing, breaking or forgetting your lenses.
When you have cataract surgery, you can choose between different types of replacement lenses, including:
- Monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) to achieve vision at one distance only
- Multifocal IOLs to achieve distance, mid-range and up-close vision
At the Eye Care Center of Northern Colorado, we refer to Multifocal lenses as Active Lifestyle Lenses or presbyopia-correcting lenses because they allow you more visual freedom after cataract surgery. In fact, vision can be so greatly improved that many presbyopia patients ask for Active Lifestyle Lenses even though they do not have cataracts.
Our doctors use the FDA-approved ReSTOR Lens by Alcon to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and presbyopia…as well as for cataract surgery.
